I chose (Aquilo - Losing You) to evaluate using Andrew Goodwin's 6 points
In his book Dancing in the Distraction Factory (1992) Andrew Goodwin points out 6 characteristics and features that can be found in music videos.
1. Music videos demonstrate genre characteristics. (e.g. stage performance in metal videos, dance routine for boy/girl band, aspiration in Hip Hop).
The genre of this music video is pop. The main similarities between pop music videos is the lead singer has the most of the screen time and dances etc. However this video does not support the similarity as there is no lead singer in any of the screen time. There is also no dance routine, there is only a role play which is uncommon for a pop music video..

2. There is a relationship between lyrics and visuals. The lyrics are represented with images. (either illustrative, amplifying, contradicting).
During this music video the lyrics have a strong relationship with the video itself as the emotions shown in the video are also in the video itself. This helps develop an understanding of the meaning of the song to the audience in the way it develops the emotional state of the boy as he has most of the screen time. The video itself is a story which amplifies the lyrics throughout the song, which shows how the younger boy is losing his friendship with the female which corresponds to the lyrics " I'm losing you".
3. There is a relationship between music and visuals. The tone and atmosphere of the visual reflects that of the music. (either illustrative, amplifying, contradicting).
The tone is setting pain and a upsetting atmosphere and this correlates to the music video as the characters show their emotions through body language. The music both illustrates and amplifies what the audience sees during the music video.
4. The demands of the record label will include the need for lots of close ups of the artist and the artist may develop motifs which recur across their work (a visual style).
The visual style has no lead singer. However there are lots of close ups to the boy who is the main character during the music video showing his emotional state. This is unusual as most music videos have the lead singer on screen at least once.
5. There is frequently reference to notion of looking (screens within screens, mirrors, stages, etc) and particularly voyeuristic treatment of the female body.
The music video did not show any "screen within screens" or "mirrors". However there was a weak reference of voyeuristic with the female as she was kissing the older boy in the car scene.6. There are often intertextual reference (to films, tv programmes, other music videos etc).
This music video have references to everyday life recreated in a drama like Waterloo Road drama's for a young audience and reality tv programs. As this shows how friendships and growing up can effect your emotions which is apart of growing up.
