Question 2

  • How effective is the combination of your music video and ancillary texts? How effective these are together. By Lewis Molloy

Below is the CD digi pack which has a strong correlation with the music magazine advertisement. Another strong visual link between the two advertisements is the artists name and the name of the album. I found that James Bay kept both individuality and originality when designing his two advertisements.

Below you can see my Cd digipack and my music magazine. The font is kept the same for both advertisements so that there is a strong link between them which is essential when it comes to linking them together. The colour of the title of the name of the artist and the album name is is the same throughout to make a strong visual link between them. Another link between my advertisements is that the images of my artist are all mid shots from different angles.

Overall i believe that the combination of my music video, CD digipack and music magazine advertisement are very effective, as they all have strong visual links to each other. I believe an audience will be able to see the ancillary tasks and be able to know the differences and acknowledge their similarities and links.

Question 1

  • In what ways do your music video, CDD and MMA use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real music videos, CDDs and MMAs? by Lewis Molloy
Before i construct my music magazine, cd digipack and my music video. I must research existing media products the research to pre-existing media products was to observe the forms and conventions that are either utilized or challenge and potentially incorporate these features to my own music video digi CD digipack and music magazine advertisement. I also looked at Android Goodwin's work dancin the distraction Factory in which he published a list of conventions, characteristics that an audience would expect to see in a music video. Firstly Goodwin stated that music videos demonstrating John with characteristics common characteristics of a music video the soul genre is the feature for performance from the artist. He also says that there is succinct relationship between music and visuals. As music videos either illustrate, amplify or contradict the song. He also stated a record label that the artist assigned to has to have specific demands. They also mostly include the need for lots of close ups of the artist and the artist will have a visual style that is repeated through there work. For example James Bay always wears his hat during his music videos. The music videos i look to for aspiration is Ed Sheeran , James Bay. Therefore i started to develop these artists conventions within their work, in my music video.
I started to look at James bay's music video 'Let it Go' which his video amplify's the emotions of the lyrics which i though was quite appealing for my music video as i think it would match well with the lyrics.

Therefore in my own music video i decided to amplify the song. T he lyrics detail and break up of Jamie Lawson's 'Still yours' attempts to reach out to loved one that has passed away and repeating 'Im still yours. Which below you can see our music video where i have amplified this effect.
 CD digi pack

Music Magazine
The way i researched music magazines is very similar to the was i researched CD digi packs. I seen that a majority of music magazine conventions have the artists name and the most dominant text and a image of the artist swell as the name of their album. This research helped me to create my own music magazine to be thoughtful during the creation of my music to have suitable and appropriate conventions in my own advertisement

Music Video

Although I have already decided that I wanted my work to have a strong visual theme that were through all of them. I wasn't sure what the theme should be like. Therefore I looked at and researched existing artists in digipacks, music magazine advertisements to see whether they have any recognisable visuals.
James bay 'Chaos and the calm' is simplistic as it shows a low angle, mid shot of the artist. The artists name and the name of the album.

I also looked at Ed Sheerans music video 'A team'. In which his music video illustrates the song which i quite liked the look at also however i preferred James Bay's 'Let it go' because it amplified the song.

I also did some research into Ed sheerans cd digi pack. I liked the way his face was on the front cover which i got an idea from for my own music video as we have also done the same idea.

Below i researched 4 CD digi packs to look at the basic conventions. This so that i can have a similar approach when creating my CD digi pack so that it would appeal to My target audience. As well as when i was research a majority of Cd digi pack i found out that a common connection os that an image of the artist and the artist name is and the album title appear on the front cover. The trackless bar code, album, credits the artists name and album on the spine of the digi pack.

Overall

Overall i mostly used and developed codes and conventions posed by existing music videos, CD digipack and music magazine advertisements. However i had to change slightly the codes i used so that it would fit with the image of artist genre of music and themes that he makes with his songs.

At the start of the planning and design process of my music video, CD digipack and music magazine advertisement, I have chosen that my music video, music magazine advertisement and CD digi pack will all have strong aesthetic links with each other to create a cohesive combination of media parts that will be identified as a unit to maintain individuality.

Construction post: Practise Filming

Below is our second time raw footage which we didn't use because the footage wasn't great therefore we did it again.

This is some footage we have recorded to focus on practising with the camera for our music video. We focussed on specific shots to give examples of what the video will look like. Some of our shots were bit shaky and we will have to address these problems for the real recording day. Also the area which we were using was quite congested with traffic so had to wait for a quitter time of the day. In the future we will go to the location at a less busy time of the day. Below is some raw footage.
